Representatives of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC) are visiting regions to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the “National Strategy on the Efficient Use of Water Resources.” During the visits, on-site inspections are conducted of the measures outlined in the Strategy and successfully implemented projects.

In addition to CAERC, the delegation includes representatives from the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and local executive authorities.

During the visits, the delegation reviewed the Taxtakörpü Reservoir in Shabran district and improvements to existing irrigation canals for farmland; a 6.5 km main water pipeline and water treatment facility for drinking water supply in Quba district; riverbank protection works on the Gudyalchay River; irrigation systems over the Gudyalchay Canal; the installation of a “Doppler X-band” radar system at automatic stations; and measures in the Red settlement to protect houses and yards from floodwaters and flash floods of the Gudyalchay River.

Subsequently, they inspected the Samur-Abşeron Canal in Qusar district; the flood protection system on the 1st Shollar water pipeline at the Velvelechay crossing in Khachmaz district; reconstruction of the left and right bank channels of the Turyanchay River and the construction of the Yengicə Reservoir in Gabala district; the Oğuz–Gabala–Baku water pipeline and the construction of the Əlicançay Reservoir in Oghuz district; concreting, cleaning, repair, and modernization works on the Kishchay and Qanikh rivers, and qanat restoration in mountain villages in Shaki district; and reconstruction works at the Mingachevir Reservoir in Mingachevir city and the Shamkirchay Reservoir in Shamkir district.

Vusal Gasimli, Executive Director of CAERC, stated that the measures outlined in the National Strategy are being successfully implemented, and work on large-scale projects is progressing rapidly.

The implementation of the “National Strategy on the Efficient Use of Water Resources” aims to increase water resources, improve the provision of high-quality drinking and irrigation water, modernize water management in this sector, and enhance cooperation in compliance with international conventions.

Within the framework of the Strategy, measures for improving the system for assessing and forecasting water resources, effective water management, efficient use of water resources, ensuring water security, and utilizing the water resource potential of the Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur economic regions are being successfully implemented.

It should be noted that, based on the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated October 10, 2024, the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the measures outlined in the National Strategy are carried out by the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication upon the request of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
